研究者としての私

私の研究は、フランス語圏のポストコロニアル文学、記号論、外国語としてのフランス語の3つの領域にまたがります。私が行うフランス語圏のポストコロニアル文学における研究は、自己と他者、移民と亡命、アイデンティティ、民族性とジェンダー関係、従属と自律、身体的抑圧、トラウマ、言語と記憶など、この分野で支配的なテーマに焦点をあてています。このようなアプローチを通じて、書物がこれらの問題の1つ以上をどのように形成するかを慎重に明らかにしようとしています。 記号論における私の研究は、人間のコミュニケーションと認知をよりよく理解することを長年にわたって追求してきました。それに加えて、フランス語教育についても、教材開発に関する論文を発表してきました。

教育者としての私

学部レベルでは、文学、言語学（どちらも英語）、フランス語の初級から中級までのクラスを教えており、フランス語の講義では話し言葉のスキルに重点を置いています。また、私の研究に関連する言語教育やその他の領域に関する論文（英語で）を指導しています。教員としての私の目標は、まず、ポストコロニアル文学のテキストと言語学の研究を通じて、今日の世界についての刺激的な知識を学習者に提供することです。フランス語の講義でも、今日的なコミュニケーションの習慣（発音、ジェスチャー、会話のパターンなど）を学ぶことができます。第二に、研究方法論に焦点をあてることで、学生が徐々に自律的に教育を受けられるようになるための手段を提供することを心がけています。学生がアカデミックな形式を用いて、かつ自分自身の声とスタイルで自らの意見を表現できるよう、助力していきたいと思います。

Research

My research spans three domains: Francophone postcolonial literature, semiotics, French as a foreign language. My work in Francophone postcolonial literature focuses on dominant themes in the field such as the self and the other, migration and exile, identity, ethnicity and gender relationships, subordination and autonomy, physical oppression, trauma, language and memory, in the writings of authors, mainly women, from Southeast Asia, India, the Indian Ocean, and Oceania. The approach carefully seeks to uncover how the writings shape one or more of these issues. My research in semiotics pursues a long-standing endeavor to better understand human communication and cognition. Eventually, I am interested in topics in French language instruction and published several papers on material development.

Teaching

At the undergraduate level, I teach classes in literature, linguistics (both in English), and French language, from beginner to intermediate levels, where I emphasize spoken skills. I also supervise theses (also in English) in language education and other domains related to my research. My goals as a teacher are, first, to provide learners with experience of exciting knowledge about the world today through the study of postcolonial literary texts and linguistics, where I prioritize a sociolinguistic orientation. In the French language classroom, the students can also learn new communication habits (pronunciation, gestures, patterns of conversation…). Second, I strive to provide students with the means to gradually become autonomous in their education by focusing on research methodology. I aim to enable students to express themselves in academic form, yet in their own voice and style.
