Philosophy and Ethics

Welcome to Philosophy and Ethics! This major pursues various forms of research, centered around the questions: “What does it mean to be human?” and “What is appropriate human behavior?”

Philosophy and ethics rely upon logic and reasoning to contemplate these questions. While this may not be an easy path, our students study the widest possible range of surveys, lectures, and practicum. Currently, this major has faculty members specialized in subjects such Social Philosophy, Western Ancient-Medieval Thought, Western Modern Philosophy, Contemporary Ideas, and History of Japanese Thought.

Students studying Philosophy and Ethics can acquire specialized and specific knowledge and academic methodologies necessary to investigate issues that have long intrigued our species. Our students become self-directed free thinkers who are capable of developing a clear awareness of relevant issues.
